The Archbishop's Residence
Erkebispegården 2
This is the oldest secular building in Scandinavia. Work on it started in the second half of the 12th century, and it served as the Archbishop's residence until the Reformation in 1537. The Archbishop's Residence is one of the best preserved buildings of its type in Europe.
After the Reformation, this building served as the residence of the Danish governors. Later, around 1700, it was left to the military authorities.

The oldest buildings in the north wing facing the cathedral are now used for official functions held by the central, county and local authorities.

Guided tours in Norwegian and English from 20 June to 20 August.
The Archbishop's Palace Museum
Erkebispegården - borggården
Winner of the Norwegian Museum of the Year award, this museum features original sculptures from Nidaros Cathedral, and archaeological discoveries from the colourful history of the Archbishop's Palace. For example, here you can see the Archbishop's coin workshop exactly as archaeologists found it.

The north wing houses the large halls and private rooms, while Lavetthuset features temporary exhibitions during the three summer months. The palace also has its own chapel which was consecrated in 1997 and is open to the public.
