Trondheim's well-established and internationally renowned university and research community provides resources for all types of business and industry. The university, colleges and Scandinavia's largest independent research institute - the SINTEF Group - make Trondheim the technology capital of Norway.

The university community in Trondheim has always been strong on technology and natural science. The Norwegian University of Science and Technology  (NTNU) is Norway's second largest university with a staff of 2,650 and more than 20,000 students.

The University cooperates with the SINTEF research institution on commissioned R&D projects. The SINTEF Group, Europe's fourth largest, undertakes research and development assignments in technology, natural science and the social sciences.

Sør-Trøndelag University College (HiST), with a staff of 500, educates around 5,500 students annually in many fields, including Engineering and Food Science, Economics, Administration, Social Work and Nursing.

The great number of students in Trondheim help give the city a special and exciting atmosphere. When they are not bent over their books in serious study they help make our streets and night spots come alive with a wonderful mix of fun, creativity and bubbling enthusiasm.
