Art at Strandveien

Artist: Michael Johansson. Title: ‘Rubiks kurve’ 2010, Art consultant: Anne-Helga Henning.

With ‘Rubiks kurve’ (“Rubik’s curve”), Swedish artist Michael Johansson has attempted to separate the residential area of Svartlamon from the industrial estate north of it. The long curved wall is situated at the corner of Strandveien and Nordtvedts gate, marking a friendly, soft transition from the private housing to the industrial park beyond. Within a steel framework, in a pattern of squares measuring 1 x 1 metres each, the wall features a variety of everyday objects. Both the rigid pattern of squares and the bold colours bear obvious associations to Rubik’s cube and a similar intellectual play with artistic effects known from the history of art.
